A youthful appearance is a sign of health and vitality. Wrinkles, sagging skin, and thinning lips can make you look tired and older than you are. Injectable aesthetic treatments are extremely popular ways to maintain a youthful appearance. Over 1.5 million Americans have Botox® injections every year, and more than a million have dermal filler injections. If you’re thinking about having either treatment, you might have some questions before deciding which treatment is right for you.
Our team here at SculptMD, in Shrewsbury, New Jersey, offers Botox and dermal fillers to help you look your best and feel confident. Before any treatment, we provide consultations to evaluate your skin and learn about your concerns and expectations to recommend the best aesthetic treatment for you.
We have years of experience in administering Botox and dermal filler. Let’s explore the differences between these injectable treatments.
What is Botox, and how does it work?
Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes the tiny facial muscles that you use when you smile or frown. As your muscles stop moving, the skin covering them also relaxes, and your wrinkles release and fade away.
Botox treatments can reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your forehead, between your eyebrows, and around your eyes (crow’s feet). The treatment is usually quick, taking approximately 20 minutes.
The effects of Botox are usually visible within 24-48 hours. It would be best if you avoided vigorous exercise, heat, and the sun for several days after your injections.
The effects of Botox are temporary. Many of our patients have quarterly injections to maintain their smooth, youthful skin. Every patient metabolizes Botox differently — you might need more or less frequent treatments.
What about dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers use gels made from collagen or hyaluronic acid to fill in areas of collagen loss. For example, we might recommend dermal filler treatment to:
- Plump your lips
- Restore volume to your cheeks
- Diminish indented scars
- Fill in deep wrinkles like the nasolabial folds between your mouth and nose
- Reduce hollow areas or sagging skin under your eyes
Dermal fillers don’t provide permanent results, although they do usually last longer than Botox. Your appointment for dermal fillers also takes longer. Your provider makes small injections, massaging the filler into place. This gradual approach ensures a natural, youthful result.
How do I know which one to choose?
Our team can examine your skin and talk to you about your concerns before making a recommendation. We also answer your questions and show you anonymous examples of other patients who have had injectable treatment.
The best part?
It doesn’t have to be an either-or situation — you can have dermal fillers and Botox. The injections address different types of signs of aging. If you have several skin concerns, we could combine Botox and dermal fillers to help you achieve your desired appearance.
